Asylum Seeker – current state

According to recent reports, some asylum seekers who have crossed the Mexican border into the United States may be waiting for up to a decade before they even get the chance to see a judge.
In various cities around the country, including San Antonio, Miramar, and Milwaukee, the wait is currently projected to stretch all the way until March of 2027. And once these individuals’ cases make their way to the immigration courts, the process itself can take up to four years to complete due to a massive backlog that currently numbers around 2.1 million cases.
Given these prolonged timelines and delays, it is clear that the current immigration system is in dire need of reform.
